Is Your Child a Picky Eater or a Supertaster?

We have a test for that!
picky-eater
Some children are very finicky about the food they eat and it’s easy to label them “Picky Eaters” when they might be more selective because they are supertasters!

Food flavors are much stronger for supertasters than for average tasters because they have more taste buds. This often leads to supertasters having very strong likes and dislikes for different food. Supertasters might find food like broccoli, cabbage, spinach, Brussels sprouts, and grapefruit to taste very bitter.
supertasters
The opposites of supertasters are non-tasters. Non-tasters have very few taste buds and, to them, most food may seem bland and unexciting. The people in the middle are average tasters. Taster category can have an impact on not only your child’s food intake but later on their health.

To discuss supertaster testing for your child in a FREE consultation, call Weight Wellness Center KIDS at 201-636-2143.

Neophobia vs Neophilia

15
On average, research has shown that repeated exposure to a new food can turn neophobia (fear of new foods) into neophilia (liking of new foods).

There’s a magic number and it's 15! Yes, it might take 15 tries before your child will train those taste buds into accepting the flavor profile of a new food. Try it different ways — broccoli will taste differently if it’s roasted, steamed, boiled, or raw. Contact us today to learn more!
